Manchester has a reputation for rain, and last Saturday it lived up to it. The queue still went out of the door, so here is what everyone was buying.
Our five bakes for a wet weekend
- Cheese and onion pasty: hot, heavy and better than an umbrella.
- Cinnamon bun: still warm at nine, gone by eleven.
- Pork and black pudding sausage roll: the proper northern breakfast.
- Manchester tart: with a pot of tea and a long sit down.
- Hot chocolate: made with real dark chocolate. No arguments.
A walk to earn it
If the rain eases off, walk the Rochdale Canal towpath from Piccadilly to us. It takes about fifteen minutes and passes some of the oldest mills in the city.

Dogs and wet coats are welcome. We have towels by the door for both. Find our opening times on the Visit page.
